Chocolate Rice Krispie Treats are the perfect no-bake treat for any chocolate lover. These soft, gooey cereal treats, packed with Cocoa Krispies and chocolate chips, will take you back to your childhood with just one bite!
Line a 9 x 9-inch baking pan with parchment paper or foil and spray with nonstick cooking spray.
In a large pan, melt butter over low heat. Set aside 2 cups of marshmallows. Add the rest of the marshmallows to the pan and stir until completely melted. Remove the pan from the heat. Stir in the sea salt and vanilla and mix until incorporated.
Gradually add Cocoa Krispies cereal; stirring until well coated. Fold in the reserved 2 cups of marshmallows and the mini semisweet chocolate chips until both are thoroughly incorporated. The chocolate chips will be melty, this is totally fine.
Using a buttered spatula or clean hands, gently press the mixture into the prepared pan. Don’t push too firmly or you’ll lose a bit of the ooey-gooey factor that we’re looking for. Cool completely at room temperature.
Notes
If you prefer thinner Chocolate Rice Krispie Treats, you can use a 9x13-inch baking pan.
If you do not care for pieces of marshmallows in your Rice Krispie Treats, you can go ahead and melt all of the marshmallows instead of reserving the 2 cups.
Chocolate Rice Krispie Treats will keep for about a week when stored in an airtight container at room temperature. Because we didn’t pack the mixture in too tightly when making them, they will stay nice and soft for several days.
