I know that people usually think savory when they think of dips, and I don’t blame them. I mean, who doesn’t love a big bowl of french onion dip and chips?

But my brain also thinks sweet when I think of dips! Maybe it’s because I run a baking site, I don’t know. But sweet dips are amazing.

I can’t have any kind of party or gathering without making a batch of my cream cheese fruit dip. It always disappears so fast and people love it with fruit, pretzels, or cookies and pound cake.

I’ve even made an orange fruit dip that tastes a bit like a creamsicle!

But this nutella fruit dip is my latest version and it’s a huge hit. Combining creamy nutella with cream cheese and whipped topping makes for the perfect sweet bite.

HOW TO MAKE NUTELLA FRUIT DIP

One of the reasons I love making fruit dips for parties is because they are so quick and easy to throw together. And since they’re so delicious, no one thinks twice about how little time it took me to make!

What is nutella?

Nutella is a chocolate and hazelnut spread made by the Italian company Ferrero.

Nutella is kind of like “Jell-O” in that it’s actually a specific brand, but a lot of people use it to refer generally to chocolate and hazelnut spread.

Nutella is amazing on toast (try it on a slice of english muffin bread!), but is also great to bake with. I love it in no-bake nutella cheesecakes and nutella s’mores fudge.

And now I love it in this nutella fruit dip!

Other ingredients you’ll need

You only need 3 other ingredients besides a jar of nutella for this fruit dip:

  • Cream cheese
  • Powdered sugar
  • Thawed Cool Whip (or TruWhip)

If you run out of powdered sugar, use my tutorial to learn how to make powdered sugar – that substitute will work great in this recipe.

Cream cheese and powdered sugar beaten together in a white mixing bowl for fruit dip.

Note that I have not tried this recipe using homemade nutella, so I can’t say how well it would work here. I do find that the homemade stuff it’s usually as smooth as the store-bought version, so your dip probably wouldn’t be as smooth and creamy if you use homemade.

You do need to use some kind of stabilized whipped topping in this recipe, rather than regular whipped cream.

Making this nutella fruit dip

Nutella fruit dip only takes a few minutes to prepare and can be made ahead of time, making it great for entertaining.

Grab your electric mixer and beat together softened cream cheese and the powdered sugar until very smooth and creamy.

Add in the nutella and mix until well combined.

Switch to a spatula and fold in the thawed whipped topping. Make sure you fold until no streaks remain.

Cover the dip and chill it for at least 3 hours before serving.

When you’re ready to serve, you can dig in as-is or garnish it with a dollop of whipped topping and some chocolate shavings for a pretty presentation.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS

So what do you serve with nutella fruit dip?

Obviously fruit is a great choice! Anything from grapes and strawberries to apples and pineapple is delicious.

But think outside of the box, too! Cubes of cream cheese pound cake or whipping cream cake are a great choice. I love brownie brittle with this – try a homemade brownie brittle if you’d like.

If you love to mix sweet and salty, dig into this dip with your favorite pretzels or pretzel crisps!

No matter how you serve this nutella fruit dip, it’s bound to be a hit.

STORAGE TIPS

Since this dip needs to chill for at least 3 hours before you serve it, it’s great to make ahead for a party. You could make it as early as the night before you plan to serve it.

Store the dip in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

You can freeze nutella fruit dip in an airtight container for up to 2 months, but keep in mind that the texture might not be exactly the same after thawing. I recommend only freezing leftovers if you plan to eat them yourself and making it fresh if serving it at a party.
