Let’s talk cherries. As you know, I have a pretty strong affinity for this lovely fruit. I’m usually the one paying the big bucks for them before they are actually in season and can be found snacking on them all summer long.
When I’m not noshing on them fresh from the colander, I’m looking for ways to work their sweet deliciousness into desserts and drinks.
Let’s face it, pitting cherries by hand can be a giant pain, trust me – I’ve done it – numerous times. It’s messy and the cherries end up looking like they’ve been stepped on as opposed to pitted which doesn’t work out so well for some recipes. Plus the juice splatters everywhere, and since I am not so fond of cleaning in general, I try not to make more work for myself.
I own two cherry pitters, but find myself using the one from OXO on a regular basis. It only pits one cherry at a time, but I honestly find it to be less of hassle when comparing it to my cherry pitter that pits multiple cherries at one time. Plus it’s small enough to store in my utensil drawer and has a nifty splatter shield which helps keep the juice on my cutting board as opposed to my face. It’s also sturdy and dishwasher safe which is always a big bonus in this household.
The OXO Cherry Pitter retails for about $13 and can be found at retailers such as Bed Bath and Beyond (be sure to use a 20% off coupon), Target and Amazon. And in my opinion it’s a summer essential!

Beautiful shots, the cherries against the blue background is stunning! I can’t wait to find a good deal on cherries around here, they are our favorite. We have an OXO cherry pitter and love it. :)
Thanks so much, Megan! I am just loving that aqua board!

I recent posted about how I made a cherry pie, and how I pitted the cherries with kabob sticks and a knife. I immediately went out the next day and bought the OXO cherry pitter and life is good now!
Gorgeous cherry photos! Especially that first one, wow! I don’t have a cherry pitter, but could definitely use one! I’ll have to grab one next time I’m at BB&B.
Thanks so much, Rachel! Happy pitting!

I have the same cherry pitter; after years of cutting cherries in half or really…not buying many because of the hassle of cutting them in half, I got one of these last year and am so glad I did.
Cutting board? Uh oh…I go plop myself down on the sofa with a big old bowl of cherries and it becomes sort of assembly line mechanical while I watch the latest ‘junk food for the mind’ episode of something. I love it too.
I now know what my next Target purchase will be!
Fancy! I’ve never used a ‘real’ cherry pitter! I have always used a paper clip- it pops out the pit really easy!
Oh yeah..it pits olives great too!
Yep..I have the same Cherry pitter( I am beginning to think we are twins). It rocks my world. I love the anti-splatter piece!
I recently bought an OXO cherry pitter and love it beyond words! It sure is a keeper and necessity!
I *adore* my OXO cherry pitter too. In fact, I also use it to pit baby plums. It’s great!
