I meant to post a recipe for Rum Raisin Cheesecake days ago – even adding a teaser post about the recipe on Facebook and then the little fellow above came into my life.

And I was pretty much dominated by those big blue eyes and puppy breath for a full 72 hours. My dad had been talking nonstop about getting a puppy for the last month. On Christmas, he opened the watch we got him – gushed about it, sighed and said, “I honestly thought you were going to get me a pup.”

Being that Jared and I are pretty much best kids on the planet, we began our search that night. Within 24 hours I located an amazingly gorgeous, Shih-Tzu – Yorkie Mix puppy for my dad. We lured him out to our house with the promise of my special New Year’s Day, Herb Crusted Pork Loin and allowed him to discover the puppy that had nestled himself under our coffee table.

We called him all sorts of old man names like Harry, Herb, Wilbur, and Walden – but Louie seemed to be the winner. Louie then affectionately turned into Lou, Lou-Lou and then Shit Head after he relieved himself twice on my cream tree skirt.

My dad’s reaction was pretty much priceless – he high-fived me then gave me the best hug ever. The next six hours were full of puppy play, huge smiles, and lots of pork and sauerkraut. Louie and my dad have now settled into their new life together and I’m pretty certain that Louie couldn’t have found a better dad!

I’ll be back tomorrow night with the aforementioned cheesecake, but until then – I’ll leave you with this:

OMG–He has to be the cutest puppy EVER. I’m still laughing about what you called him after he used your tree skirt!!! I’m sure he was quickly forgiven since he is adorable.

    Queenie-
Your readers are right, you and Jared are the best kids, a mom and dad could ever have. He is going to work with your dad every day and the employees at the dealership love him! You guys make me smile every single day – love you both very much.

Sweet puppy!!! I would have guessed he was an Austrailian Shepard. Seriously, google AS puppy pics and see what I mean. I had an AS growing up so I a very fond of them :)
    Love your blog!

I’m with you..I think the puppy has to have Aussie in him… We had an Australian Shepherd too, for 16 years.. may Freddy RIP. Don’t see the Shih-Tzu โ€“ Yorkie Mix at all. Very sweet and adorable dog no matter what he is though!

Okay, I will take this post over a cheesecake recipe…so adorable and there is nothing like a new puppy, even when his name is occasionally s***head (our dog’s name is Tucker, you can only imagine what he gets called when he is in trouble). What a nice surprise for your dad!

Do you know what I love even more than baked goods? Yes…it’s dogs. My ‘pup’ is fourteen drives me nuts because she is losing her hearing and feels a need to bark and cry to go out and come in, begs constantly and is altogether a PITA. That I love. I have said I’m done with dogs after Abbie and then I see a puppy photo and just melt.

Here’s to your Dad and Louie and to his good kids who made his year start off with the perfect pal.
